Design for Additive Manufacturing / 3D printing Course

Oct 8, 2015 - Oct 9, 2015

‘Blurring the lines between 3D printing prototyping and first-run production’

According to Forbes, a new era of product innovation has arrived using 3D printing. Additive manufacturing will build a better future. Further advances in printer and materials technology have allowed AM to expand to applications such as tooling and end-use part production.

AM is used in many industries, including aerospace and defense, automotive, consumer products, industrial products, medical devices, and architecture. General Electric, for instance, is now using metal printers to produce its fully redesigned new fuel injection system for jet engines, reducing component parts from 21 parts to 1 and incorporating geometries impossible to create using any other manufacturing method.

Design for Additive Manufacturing – Key Topics of the Course

A short overview of the main topics of the course:

  • • Design from the machine point of view;
  • • Design from the construction point of view;
    • Necessary preparations;
    • Dimensional accuracy before and after;
    • Surface finishing & mechanical properties;
    • Modeling and simulation of AM parts;
    • How to review your part;

The Innovation Renaissance

It was also reported that this innovation renaissance will only accelerate as companies move beyond redesigning existing products to creating new products that today are unimaginable.
